2. General notes
We process personal data only insofar as this is necessary to provide this website, to answer enquiries or on the basis of consent. Processing is carried out on the basis of Art. 6 (1) (a), (b) or (f) GDPR. Your data is not sold or transmitted for advertising purposes. There is no automated decision-making or profiling within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR. A data protection officer has not been appointed, as this is not required under Art. 37 GDPR.
3. Hosting and server log files
This website is hosted on a server in Germany (a server data centre in Germany (Aachen)). Each time the website is accessed, information is stored in so-called server log files:
- IP address (truncated/pseudonymised where technically possible)
- date and time of access
- page accessed and volume of data transferred
- browser type, operating system and referrer URL
Processing is based on Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in the technically error-free display and security of the website). The log data is deleted after 14 days. This data is not merged with other data sources. The hosting provider processes data on our behalf on the basis of a data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR). Editorial management of the website content is carried out via a git-based content management system stored with GitHub Inc. (USA); this concerns editorial content only, not visitor data.
4. Contact form
If you send us enquiries via the contact form, your details (name, email address, message and the additional information you provide on whether you wish to receive our newsletter) are processed for the purpose of handling the enquiry and for any follow-up questions. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR (pre-contractual measures) or Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. Providing your name, email address and message is required in order to process your enquiry; without this information we cannot answer it. To prevent abuse and spam, the sender's IP address is logged for a limited period of time.
The data is transmitted to our mailbox by email and additionally stored in a protected database on our server. It will be deleted as soon as it is no longer required for the purpose and no statutory retention obligations stand in the way (6 months after completion of correspondence).
5. Newsletter
If you subscribe to the newsletter, we store your email address as well as the subscription date and language in order to send the newsletter (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR, consent). You may withdraw your consent at any time via the unsubscribe option in every newsletter. After withdrawal, your email address will be deleted.
6. PostHog analytics (only after consent)
This website uses the analytics service PostHog (PostHog Inc., processing in the EU, EU endpoint eu.i.posthog.com) for the statistical evaluation of usage. No data is transmitted to PostHog unless you have expressly consented via the consent banner.
After consent, the following data is processed: pages viewed, referrer, coarse technical information (browser, device) and the consent status. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR. PostHog processes the data as a processor (Art. 28 GDPR). You may withdraw your consent at any time by deleting the website data or the consent status in your browser (localStorage entry "sw-analytics-consent"). Until revoked, a pseudonymous identifier is set to attribute page views.
Note: As long as no analytics key is configured, the service remains technically inactive.
7. Cookies and local storage
This website does not use cookies for advertising or tracking purposes. The only technically necessary local storage is your consent status for the analytics service (see section 6) and an identifier for the intro animation on first visit. These local entries are not transmitted to us and can be deleted at any time via your browser settings.
8. Fonts and external content
All fonts are loaded locally from our server. There is no connection to Google Fonts or other external font/CDN services. External content (e.g. linked profiles) is only loaded after active use; no social media plugins transmitting data on page load are embedded.
9. Your rights
You have the following rights with regard to your personal data:
- Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR)
- Right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR)
- Right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR)
- Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
- Right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR)
- Right to object to processing under Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (Art. 21 GDPR)
- Right to withdraw consent given (Art. 7 (3) GDPR)
To exercise your rights, an email to [email protected] is sufficient. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR).
10. Data security
The website is transmitted encrypted via TLS/HTTPS. We take technical and organisational security measures to protect your data against accidental or intentional manipulation, loss or access by unauthorised third parties.
